The Met Gala was definitely missing from the year that was 2020. With the hopes that it would have made the Covid-19 pandemic a little more bearable, it was delayed due to obvious reasons. The Met Gala will return this year as a date and theme have been confirmed for a two-part extravaganza.

Confirmed today by organisers, Anna Wintour and Andrew Bolton, there will be TWO Met Galas this year and lengthening the iconic event of an ultimate celebration to fashion.

The first part of the Met Gala will take place on 18 September 2021, celebrating the theme of, ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.‘ It is said to explore the “modern vocabulary of American fashion.”

The second part of the Met Gala will return on 2 May 2022 (the usual scheduling for the Gala), celebrating the theme of, ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion.

Andrew Bolton told Vogue in an interview, “Timed to coincide with the close of what will hopefully be an in-person New York Fashion Week… I think that the emphasis on conscious creativity was really consolidated during the pandemic and the social justice movements.”

“The American fashion community has been supporting us for 75 years really since the beginning of the Costume Institute, so I wanted to acknowledge its support, and also to celebrate and reflect upon American fashion.”

Depending on the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, the Met Gala will expectedly show a celebration of Americanism with designers, as well as classic and daring fashion.
